Craig Clouet and
Susan Vogt, co-chairs of the
Data Inventory and Assessment Committee (Data Committee), are looking for volunteers to commit their valuable time to become part of the Data Committee Working Groups. The Working groups are designed to fulfill the goals of the Data Committee. In addition, if HIGICC’s CAP 4 application to fund the Business Plan element for Data is funded by the FGDC, the Data Committee will be instrumental in organizing participation over the next year and ½. The Working Groups are outlined below.
We are looking for members who can seriously commit to following through with all the Working Groups’ obligations. Below is the list of folks who have signed up previously to support the Data Committee, but opportunities are open to all interested HIGICC members.
Please respond back to Craig and Susan (
cclouet[at]esri.com and
svogt[at]geocgi.com) if you are interested in becoming involved with the work of the Data Committee and indicate which of the 5 Working Groups described below you would like to participate in. The Chairs would like to have the members of the Working Groups assigned in the next week and will be calling a full meeting of the Data Committee in early January to get things started.
Working group structure and responsibilities
The Data Committee will form 5 Working Groups, which are a meld of items outlined in the HIGICC’s recently completed Business Plan. Three of these – the Continuous Working Groups - would be focused on developing recommendations and procedures that would apply to all framework data layers. The other two – the Phased Working Groups - will begin by focusing specifically on the two priority framework layers of imagery and elevation. Templates and workflows from the first two themes, imagery and elevation, can then be applied to the other data categories.
Continuous Working groups:
All three of the Continuous Working Groups would coordinate with the Phased Working Groups, with their initial focus on imagery and elevation. The Data Committee, as a whole, would then have a framework for the Phased Working Groups to apply to the other framework data layer targets as specified in the Business Plan.
- Data standards and metadata Working Group
This group will focus on developing recommendations for establishing data and metadata standards for all framework layers, starting with imagery and elevation.
- Data maintenance Working Group
This group will be responsible for developing comprehensive data maintenance procedures. This will involve identifying ‘interested parties’ for each framework layer, developing a vision for the future of the data layer, and recommendations for data layer maintenance and updates.
- Distribution Working Group
This group will establish data distribution recommendations and coordinate with the HIGICC’s Information Technology (IT) Committee Website Working Group to create appropriate links or distribution mechanisms such as portals for the data layers.
Phased Working Groups:
These Working Groups will concentrate their efforts on developing the inventory of existing data as well as for near-term planned improvements or projects that will enhance the data layers. Each group can begin with the I-plan as a baseline from which to build. Again, we will start with imagery and elevation framework layers, and then move on to the others. Of course, if we have volunteers that are only interested in other framework layers and want to get started on those inventories, we will certainly have them form other data specific Working Groups.
This group will concentrate on developing an inventory of Statewide imagery data and near-term acquisition needs.
This group will concentrate on developing an inventory of Statewide elevation and bathymetry data and near-term acquisition needs.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact either Craig or Susan.
Mahalo for your support!
